Overview

Two fishing scout pilots make a horrifying discovery when they encounter a second Godzilla alongside a new monster named Anguirus. Without the weapon that killed the original, authorities attempt to lure Godzilla away from the mainland. But Anguirus soon arrives and the two monsters make their way towards Osaka as Japan braces for tragedy.

Happy Anniversary to this movie! Released on this day (April 24, 1955) 65 years ago! Technically it’a already April 24 in Japan right now.

I’ll never be crazy about the ramped up film during the battle scenes but I do like this movie. It’s notable for being the first sequel and featuring the first kaiju to battle Godzilla which would usher in a long series of movies featuring more giant monsters. It’s also the third highest Godzilla movie in tickets sold (after the first film and KK v Godzilla, IIRC) and 31st for all Japanese produced movies. Not bad!
