Viewing Notes

This was the third feature in the Projection Booth triple feature live broadcast watch party on KAST. This is also my second KAST watch party this week.

This is probably the most compelling of the three films Mike White programmed for the watch party and possibly the most rare of the three. I believe this is billed as horror but it’s not. It’s more of a mystery as to why a man is filming himself each night and what it means to this broken filmmaker who is happens to be an addict and can’t get his life sorted.

Despite being super dialed into this story I could not connect with it. Perhaps b/c I didn’t quite understand what the motivations were and why this filmmaker was interested in the home recordings of this bizarre individual. I get that the filmmaker had this toxic relationship w/his girlfriend but found it challenging to pull all the pieces together. If this were readily available I would like to view it again. It’s definitely unique and not like anything I’ve seen. Also seems like something Pedro Almodovar would have seen and enjoyed.
