Viewing Notes

This is the conclusion of the events started in the previous GANTZ movie, programmed as a double feature by DKUTV. If my library was open (all libraries currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic) I would’ve gotten the Blu-rays rather than watch the broadcast, which always suffers from quality degradation in the streaming portal.

Anyways, this is where things get really weird in the story. Some of the players that get called to the room w/the black sphere are actually former players that had forgotten. But they’re assembled to take on the big bad and its army of super humanoid aliens. The centerpiece is a super violent battle in a subway train. Innocent passengers getting gunned down by the aliens. It’s a thrilling sequence that made me wish they had opened with a little of that scene to hook the viewer right away instead of the flash forward slow sequence they used. It’s a slow burn until that subway sequence.

After that the story focuses on the main characters and fight sequence between just them. Then it story gets a little philosophical and sorta fizzles out. Still curious about the tv series which I may watch at some point. Once the libraries open I’ll definitely revisit these as they will hopefully look and sound a lot better on Blu.
