Nobody would think that Bruce Li and Yuen Wo Ping has much in common but this epic film proves otherwise. After the death of Bruce Lee a new star is chosen and mayhem follows. The whole Yuen Clan contributes in what could be Li’s greatest action scenes.

Bruce Li is quite the specimen here. It’s astonishing how much he really does look like Bruce Lee at times. When I saw that VCI was releasing this in their Pearl River Collection I wanted to check it out to see if it was worth owning. The transfer on Prime is lousy and so is the audio (the English dub) so that would be reason to have a better version. The movie is pretty good with Bruce Li being handpicked to replace Bruce Lee and become the next superstar. However, there’s a big bad that wants him gone so everywhere Li goes he gets challenged. It’s funny when he goes to the USA and the establishing shot is of Chicago. Of course nothing was really filmed there (Chicago makes another hilarious appearance towards the end of the movie).
I like the most of the fight sequences simply b/c Li is fun to watch imitating Lee. Also Ku Feng is here, which is great. I like the brief scenes of Tokyo, too.
If that VCI release is a restored update with some decent features and in its original Mandarin, I’d consider getting it.
