Viewing Notes

Been ten years since I’ve seen this (last was on the big screen at Portage Theatre). I still haven’t seen THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN of which this movie is a sequel to. But I think they use scenes from that movie to pad out this movie. This story is about locating Glenn, the giant man monster, who went missing at the end of the previous movie. I recall seeing so many photo stills from this movie when I was a kid yet never being able to see the movie. In recent years (2000s) it just wasn’t readily available on home video so I was thrilled to see it on the big screen back in 2010. Now shit like this just pops up on Amazon Prime. Guess it probably had a home video release at some point.

Wouldn’t classify this as a good movie but it’s a really great example of post-war 1950s science fiction B-movie cinema and the popularity of giant monster flicks at the time. Seems like the kind of flick that ran at the drive-ins back in the day (it’s really the ideal film for that). This is a b&w movie that suddenly goes color during the finale. Not sure if the original film was also that way but that tripped me out.

Shit, I just watched again (started it from the beginning when I was updating my log here). I’m pretty sure Ishiro Honda watched this movie. That entire final sequence reminds me a lot of KING KONG ESCAPES.
