Viewing Notes

Had to get the Blu from my library since it’s already packed up. Been wanting to revisit this for a while since it keeps getting mentioned on my TL. I enjoyed this movie when it was originally released and it’s hard to believe it’s been 11 years. Weird to see some of the actors in this movie like Chris Pratt in a very bit part or JK Simmons as the teacher. Of course Megan Fox was already an “it girl” then before she was blacklisted.

Forgot how god damn creepy this movie is. Had me a lot more unsettled this time around than I remember being seeing it in theater. I forgot Diablo Cody wrote this and I think that was my only real nitpick at the time, that weird dialogue phrasing. But the dialogue didn’t bother me this time and it flows a lot better for me now. I def like this movie a lot more now which I think it more about where we are post-#metoo and everything else happening in our society over the past 10 years.

My nitpicks on this viewing are more filmmaking things like Needy having makeup in prison during the opening sequence. Women wearing makeup in prison always bugs me for some reason, esp when it’s super obvious. The other thing is that this is supposed to be this small town in Minnesota yet Needy has a rotisserie chicken from Boston Market in her fridge. There’s a Boston Market in this small town? When Chip exclaims about making reservations at Cheesecake Factory… uh so you’re driving the “big city” after the formal dance or what the fuck. Just doesn’t fit here but whatever.

My biggest nit is that the school just remains open after two students are brutally murdered. That’s a hard one to swallow esp for a small town high school where everyone knows everyone. But I’m willing to let it all slide bc a lot of this is pretty fucking great. Both Fox and Seyfried are stellar.

Maybe I just forgot but it was cool seeing Lance Henriksen picking up Needy at the end of the movie.
