Viewing Notes

Ordered this from the InterLoan after seeing Ron log it and was unsure if this is the same movie I watched prior to tallying films on the regular. I don’t think this is the one. Perhaps it was another Mabuse title (didn’t realize there are 9 Mabuse films!).

This is a fun movie. It’s all over the place yet manages to rein it all in for the finale. Tho entirely different style this has the same energy as the Japanese late 50s / early 60s b&w crime flicks. Would love to see a bunch of these Mabuse films on the big screen in 35mm.

Also watched the 33 minute featurette that discussed Lang’s transition to Hollywood and why he went back to Germany to make this movie as well as his final years. Forrest J Ackerman is one of the talking heads and it reminded me that I associated METROPOLIS with Famous Monsters magazine bc Ackerman would always include a photo of the Maria robot that he owned.
