aka FINAL WAR - Not so much a lost film as it’s really just become a film that’s been largely unobtainable since Toei made it unavailable (just like Toho did with THE LAST WAR). Years ago I’d read about both of these films being chased in the trading market due to their unavailability. Apparently b/c of the subject matter the studios pulled them from the market. It’s possible all that’s changed now but I haven’t been following any updates. I’m glad that DKUTV programmed this as part of their Jeopardy in July series.
This movie isn’t as good as Toho’s version but still very fascinating given the premise and general terrifying situation of having a bomb dropped on Tokyo. What is most frightening to me is seeing the usually well-mannered Japanese completely freak out just like any populace would in a disaster scenario. It’s like human nature and selfishness is gonna takeover no matter what.
