Viewing Notes

I really like this and the etching on 35mm to create this animated tapestry of title cards set to some groovy music. However, after the first 20 minutes or so it gets very repetitive. I get that’s probably the point but it would’ve been neat to have a little more of a narrative theme or connection with the title cards used. At certain moments I feel like it’s trying to establish a thread between words and creating messages or ideas but then it goes in a different direction. Again, this is all likely the intent but it could have been more effective at a shorter running time. The novelty wears off by the halfway mark and the only real interest is seeing what new titles may get included.

A big positive is the variety of title cards used, which is all over the place. Seeing mainstream films mixed with true obscurities and foreign films provide a thought provoking blend. Just wish there was a better rhyme and reason for selecting these particular titles outside they just look cool (“Gojira” for example). Definitely a neat art project that was probably fun to create.
