Viewing Notes
Second feature in Paul’s superhero themed watch party on Kast. Was looking forward to this one bc it stars Famke Janssen pre-Bond/X-Men fame. This is also a movie you would guess was made in the early to mid-90s… from the fashion to the production to the overall look. It screams it. And I like it for that reason. A few of the trailers that Paul showed just before the movie were also of that period and gave me a dash of nostalgia for that time (Joan Severance in BLACK SCORPION, come on!).
This was a made-for-TV movie that got some extra sexy scenes (nudity) added for the home video release (or movie channels, I suppose). Funny how they must of shot that during the production then just edited for the tv broadcast. Clearly Famke has a body double. What brings the flick down a notch is the fight choreography; it’s shot in a way that you know Famke wasn’t doing any of that fighting. And it just looks like shit most of the time.
I do like the twist with the second Lady X and how Lex has to team up with her would be assassin to solve this situation. This was based on a short lived good girl art comic book that I’d like to track down. The graphic novel anyways.
Apparently this movie is on Prime. I may watch it there again with less tired eyes on a better screen. May need to bust out my Black Scorpion dvd for a double feature.
