Blood Beach (1980)

Directed by Jeffrey Bloom

Horror

Overview

Something or someone is attacking people one by one on the beach. Some of them are mutilated, but most of them are sucked into the sand, disappearing without a trace. What is the creature responsible? Where does it live, and where did it come from? And is there any chance of it reproducing? Meanwhile, David Huffman and Mariana Hill are once-almost-married old friends, reunited over the death of her mother on the beach, and searching for clues in the abandoned buildings where they used to play when they were young.

Viewing Notes

RIP John Saxon (August 5, 1936 - July 25, 2020)

Wanted to spin up another movie to celebrate the career of John Saxon, who left us recently, but something I haven’t seen. So I threw on my grey market DVDR of this flick which I tried watching back when I got it some 10+ years ago. This is not a good movie.

Unfortunate bc this has a good cast and that poster art is great. Worth noting that this crappy transfer does it no favors and I would be willing to watch a better quality release if one exists. But wow this just builds and builds then fizzles at the end. I had to watch the finale twice bc I couldn’t believe they just ended the movie like that.

This was filmed in Santa Monica pier but it reminded me a lot of Santa Cruz. I really like seeing those beach towns in movies.
