After the vicious slaughter of his family by stone-cold mercenary Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi is exiled to the torturous Netherrealm. There, in exchange for his servitude to the sinister Quan Chi, he’s given a chance to avenge his family – and is resurrected as Scorpion, a lost soul bent on revenge. Back on Earthrealm, Lord Raiden gathers a team of elite warriors – Shaolin monk Liu Kang, Special Forces officer Sonya Blade and action star Johnny Cage – an unlikely band of heroes with one chance to save humanity. To do this, they must defeat Shang Tsung’s horde of Outworld gladiators and reign over the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Perhaps the most violent animated film I’ve seen… which is saying a lot given all the weird anime I’ve seen. This is so over the top hyper-violent it’s ridiculous at times. I get what they were going for in mimicking the video game but so much of it is unneeded.
The story is a loose remake of first live action film with the added origin story for Scorpion and some other mumbo-jumbo nonsense about the other realm and earth realm. It’s fine and has a few fun moments.
Didn’t care for the animation style. In the extras they show character designs that are more stylized and look so much better. Wish they had used those. I can understand why ppl like this but it just had me wanting to rewatch the OG MK movie.
