An anime series I’m not familiar with so I wanted to watch this one programmed by DKUTV for their 5th anniversary marathon (haven’t seen it appear on their schedule until now). This is the first part of a three installment OVA that condenses the first 24 episodes of the TV series. Since this covers so many episodes it’s very confusing as events unfold (I had to read the Wiki on the OG series to get a general foundation of the premise).
This is another series attempting to recreate the success of Macross (Robotech) with some similar plot points. It’s also a very Japanese POV on the Cold War that was occurring at the time between Russia and the US yet set in the distant future of 1996. LOL
The OVA doesn’t work b/c it removes any and all character character development in lieu of just a progression of action beats. Imagine taking any series of 24 eps and reducing it to a 55 minute movie. Not ideal. If the series were available I’d watch that before viewing another one of these installments altho the preview for the second part looks wild.
