A short featurette on the Criterion release of Truffaut’s DAY FOR NIGHT where Annette Insdorf provides some terrific analysis of the movie and excellent insight to Truffaut. I enjoyed the movie but this breakdown of specific aspects of the filmmaking made me want to watch the movie again (this along with another short featurette about the dream sequence were very informative). Insdorf is cited as a film critic but she’s really a scholar the way she navigates thru the work and relates to other works and directors. It’s like a mini film class. I don’t what she’s done in this format but I’d love to hear her discuss more films. Good stuff.
