Viewing Notes

I haven’t seen Cronenberg’s RABID since movie night over a decade ago but I definitely don’t recall it being so over the top extreme in the story it tells.  It’s on Prime I will try to give it a spin soon. There is nothing subtle in this film. The Soska sisters really amped up everything and the movie suffers for it. It’s not bad but being in the shadow of the original wearing the same title doesn’t do this movie any favors. Had this been it’s own thing it would probably sit better as its own take on rage zombies. That’s my issue with it: zombies. Okay so not really zombies but whatever they are (akin to the infected in 28 Days Later). I just don’t care about zombies or seeing infected ppl flip out in a hospital and bite more ppl. So tired of that trope.

I do like the lead actress Laura Vandervoort a lot and the film is the best looking film I’ve seen from the Soskas. I wish they hadn’t included themselves in the movie, however. I was already soured in them before all the shit they’ve pulled in the past year. I don’t need to see them prancing around their own movie. They mention in the extras that this is CM Punk’s first horror movie which makes me wonder when this was made compared to GIRL ON THE THIRD FLOOR.
