Was glad to find this on Netflix. This is another screening I saw at FF2018 that I had no business attending b/c I was so damn tired I had a rough time keeping my eyes open. That was not a good year for my energy level due to major lack of sleep and not being able to take catnap breaks near the SLamar Drafthouse.
Anyways, it was nice to revisit this collection of animated shorts with clear eyes. The Studio Ponoc team are former Ghibli guys and it shows. The first short “Kanîni to Kanîno” feels like a prequel or sidequel to Ghibli’s Secret World of Arrietty… of course b/c it shares the same director!
The second short “Life Ain’t Gonna Lose” is a very sweet slice of life story about a mother and her son that has an allergy to eggs. Teared up a little towards the end of this one.
The third and final short “Invisible” is pretty cool and basically how some people are simply unseen until they do something miraculous.
They call this Volume 1 so I hope they make another Volume of short films. Plenty of talent on display.
