Overview

Ninko is a virtuous Buddhist monk who’s embarrassed to discover that he’s irresistible to many women (and some men). After a particularly troubling encounter with a masked woman, he undertakes a journey to “purify” himself, hoping that this will equip him to rebuff sexual advances. Viewing Notes

Rather wild indie flick about a monk that finds himself very desirable by the local village women. However, since he’s a monk he has to suppress the urges to reciprocate and therefore has nightmares. Very interesting Edo period flick that isn’t a pinku film but teeters on the line; plays more like a V-cinema release. The story and premise feels strained even at 70 minutes. I think this might’ve worked better as a 20 minute short film. Also I believe this is the first feature length Japanese crowdfunded movie I’ve seen.

I know Third Window/Arrow picked this up in the UK so I was surprised to see this on the shelf at my library from a completely different distributor. Really curious who the buyer was that procured this title.
