Viewing Notes

Requested this from my library after the recent passing of Diana Rigg. Was looking for other films she was in that I hadn’t seen and this one looked fun. It is! It’s really fun, in fact, where she portrays a woman intending to take down this secret assassination club by putting out a hit on it’s leader, Oliver Reed. Plenty of hijinks ensue and some slapsticky stuff but overall this is an entertaining romp and my favorite period of Ollie Reed’s work. He’s really great, so charismatic. Rigg is wonderful playing off his outlandish behavior and disguises as he tries to outwit the assassins attempting to take him out as he woes Rigg, who is more reserved. Really nice pairing.

Naturally the composite work is dated but the SFX are still neat with big explosions and a cool miniature airship for the big finale. Also the globetrotting around Europe highlights some beautiful on-location filming. I guessed the soundstage stuff was likely Pinewood Studios so I was happy to see that noted in the credits. Also features *two* Bond villains in Telly Savalas and Curd Jürgens. Was pleased to see the gorgeous Annabella Incontrera in a seductress role.

RIP Diana Rigg
