Picked this off the new release shelf at my library bc I was rather surprised to see a “red film” on the shelf (I really shouldn’t be surprised anymore, tbh). I’m pretty sure that if the majority of the library employees knew what a red film was they would yank it from circulation. Or maybe not. The entire library system is pretty weird.
Anyways, I’m not really a fan of red films but since my library had this I figured why not. It’s pretty much what I expected; a rather dull story about a woman possessed by satan and a parade of priests trying to save her. Each priest meets his death in a gruesome fashion. Of course the highlight of a red film is the SFX and Marcus Koch, a director in his own right, did all the amazing practical FX work. The gore is really gross and very realistic in most cases. I just wish there was a more compelling story to make this worth viewing. So boring in-between those gross-out scenes.
The Blu is a BD-Rom which I’m guessing was sold direct from Unearthed (Stephen Biro’s own company) so I’m even more curious who the buyer was that went out of their way to order this at my library. So bizarre. The disc is loaded with extras. I watched a little of Biro’s interview and Koch’s interview and some of the behind-the-scenes featurette.
