This is a compilation of the web series into a complete feature film, which I did not know until I got the DVD and wondered how the hell this movie was 2.5 hours long. There’s some good stuff but it does feel more like a series than a feature film. Clearly low budget but the action direction is solid. It’s odd b/c it’s half in English and half in Japanese seemingly at random. Also there’s only three cast members that are Japanese yet all the characters speak Japanese at some point and it’s actually pretty good so I guess they had a good speech coach on set.
Didn’t realize that Ryu is portrayed by Mike Moh (OUATIH) until an hour into this but he’s super bulked up here compared to his Bruce Lee. The downsides for me are the terrible wigs they give Christian for his Ken character. It’s just soooo bad and so distracting. Also some of the English dialogue is awful. Like cheesy cartoon dialogue. Lastly, there’s no real ending to this. I wonder if they had planned more but it was cancelled or lacked the funding. So weird to spend all this time with Ryu and Ken then just ends with nothing.
Oh I just checked and I guess there was another 4 episode series 2 years after this series ended. I’ll have to look for that.
