Interesting enough story and film but probably not a great adaptation. Guessing Shirley Jackson’s novel has more depth and nuance w/these characters that likely fosters more empathy. Here the two sisters seem rather flat despite the good performances by both women. You get a bead on both very quickly and not much changes. Crispin Glover as the uncle and Sebastian Stan as the cousin are more intriguing yet aren’t the main focus so they suck some of the energy.
Not a spot on horror film but adjacent enough to add to the 31 Days project.
