Finally got this from the library after a long waitlist so I had to get it back since it’s a high demand title. I really love Kelly Reichardt’s style of filmmaking. This feels in the same vein as her MEEK’S CUTOFF but mainly due to the old west period. But it does share some of the quiet contemplative qualities. Would’ve loved to see this on the big screen to bathe in those rusty autumn hues. Really nice performances all around even in the small bit roles. John Magaro is terrific as Cookie and gives a warm Shia LaBeouf vibe.
Watched the 26 minute BTS/making-of featurette as well. Lots of neat filmmaking talk in how they shot day for night and did the setups out in the woods around Portland. The two leads also got to share their experience working on the movie. Really good stuff.
