I crowdfunded this movie like 4 years ago or something. It’s finally getting out to festivals. They offered a streaming link for some supporters and mine expires today so I gave it a whirl while sorting garbage.
This is a pretty good doc esp. for anyone familiar with this period in coin-op gaming. Smash TV was a big favorite of mine and we used to go to the arcade in Carbondale often to play it even tho I wasn’t great at it (ate a lot of quarters). I never played Mortal Kombat in the arcade but certainly picked up the cart when it hit consoles. It was the biggest selling game of all time on release.
Much of why I crowdfunded this is bc this company was in Chicago so there’s a lot of that talk in this. For anyone familiar with Midway Games and this period of gaming this will be a fun viewing. It was cool to see Paul WS Anderson talk about making his first Hollywood movie Mortal Kombat.
