Viewing Notes

Soft 6 outta 10 but wowza this movie has not aged well. Not that it was great on release (I gave it a passing 6/10 then, too). The homophobia is strong with this one esp. for a early naughts flick. The CG also isn’t good but I can let that slide but there’s so much of it. What is good is lead Monica Keena and some of the Freddy / Jason stuff. When the film breaks its own rules is when it really begins to implode but I guess ya just gotta go with it. I do really hate how they made Katharine Isabelle’s character an insecure dumbass.

I picked up F13: Final Chapter from the library to watch for Friday the 13th but then remembered I had this movie since i recently added it to my database. Having not seen this one since it was released I felt like giving it another shake. Ugh. Can’t see revisiting this one for a long time.

What also hurt this particular viewing is watching this right after FREAKY, which oddly shares some similar story beats (high school teens banding together to defeat the baddie and gay themes tho used more appropriately esp. when that term is used). FREAKY just handles this kind of supernatural story better and has heart; FvJ is hollow and aggro in your face violent just like its mostly nu-metal soundtrack.
