Been wanting to revisit this ever since I picked up the blu for 5 bucks at BB. I knew time would be favorable bc this isn’t as bad as it was on release. Divorce this from the book and it’s really a fun romp. Sure, the VFX aren’t so hot and there’s these maddening continuity nitpicks w/the attire/makeup (like when Dorian Gray’s suit is completely shredded and seconds later he’s already wearing a perfectly new suit; i don’t think that’s one of his powers).
It’s too bad this movie wasn’t a tad better to be more successful so they could’ve made a sequel that’s teased at the end w/Connery returning. He was one of the producers on this film and I’m sure this seemed like a great project on paper. I used to be sad that this was the last live action role he did before retiring but now I think it’s pretty cool. He was 73 when this movie was released and still quite spry. I can only hope for the same in twenty years!
RIP Sean Connery
