Viewing Notes

I dunno why but this just seems like a Thanksgiving movie, esp. with the whole “There’s no place like home” theme. Felt appropriate and I needed a break so I pulled out my Best of Warner Bros. 50 Film Collection which hasn’t been packed yet bc it’s so damn bulky. In fact I think this is the first movie I’ve watched from this set. Maybe I’ll that one movie a week from this set once I get settled.

This blu is the best I’ve ever seen this movie including that Fathom Event on the big screen which was a little muddy b/c it was being streamed in rather than shot off the harddrive (at the same issue w/the Frankenstein/Bride double at the same theater). Anyways, this blu looks great and it’s neat to see so many details in the set design. It all looks so fake and yet that feeds into the illusion of the fantasy. I just love that this was entirely done on a soundstage. The miniatures are great, too. Still love the Flying Monkeys the most.

The intro is a bit clunky and it takes 19.5 minutes to get to Oz but I like that sepia tone contrast w/the technicolor look of Oz. I just wish we had that Wicked movie already to pair with this one.
