Viewing Notes

Rather magical and mystical film with very little dialogue. The digital photography is exquisite; the sound design compliments the imagery, a very dreamlike atmosphere that lures the viewer into this meditative journey. The elephant becomes more than just a character and a real symbol of life and sacrifice. Really dug this movie and it was the perfect break from ~gestures all around~. It probably hit harder for me being at this stage in my own life and journey towards the ultimate end. I’d love to revisit this one after I move.

Just noticed that the TMDb description really doesn’t describe the story. From MUBI: After a devastating earthquake, Nga, an old elephant and probably the last of its species, and Sanra, his mahout, are about to embark on a journey to find the mythical elephant’s graveyard. The group of poachers following them will die one after the other under mysterious circumstances and spells.
