Another advanced screening I signed up for a while back and now had a 48 hour window to view when it was ready (there’s supposed to be a director Q&A tomorrow at the end of the viewing window). So yay for LIONSGATE watermark in the top center of the screen for the duration! (also had my email and ip address in the bottom right corner for the entire runtime)
This is a very good “life flashes before your eyes” in movie form and a terrific performance by Sienna Miller. It’s interesting b/c the reason she took the Baroness role in the GI JOE movie over a decade ago was bc she was tired of portraying traumatized characters. She took a break then came back to portray several characters that are dealing with trauma and grief and this one is really the apex of that. Given my limited viewing time these days I normally wouldn’t make time for a film like this but the solid WOM had me sold and I’m not sure when / where the film will be released.
Was able to watch the Q&A with the director Tara Miele and lead actor Sienna Miller. Was interesting that the story came about from a real car crash that the director was in that had reflecting on her own life. Also Sienna Miller sought this role after reading the script. She noted that she is drawn to these kinds of tormented roles so I guess she’s gotten over her early career choices (which she briefly touches on when asked if something has changed in her over these past few years w/the roles she’s taken). Sienna also said this was the hardest character she’s done because on the emotional lifting and the heavy grief needed for the part. I really like what both had to say about the takeaways from this movie and how we deal with life in all of its messiness and complications. Got a little misty eyed hearing that and thinking about where this movie goes by the end. Good stuff.
