Jason held a special quickly arranged watch party to pay tribute to Mike McPadden who we lost this week due to a heart attack. This was a tremendous loss for the cult film community and Chicago (he was ever-present at most weird film events around town; I last saw him earlier this year— pre-pandemic lockdown—in March at a Doc Films 35mm screening of Looking for Mr. Goodbar). Anywho, Jason programmed a double feature of obscure sex comedies as a way to remember Mike’s contributions and his most recent tome, Teen Movie Hell. Mike was the same age as me and his death really affected me so I wanted to join the watch party for at least one of the movies.
I think I enjoyed this movie more than most of our group but yeah the lead protag is an asshole. But I like the fish out of water learning to adapt premise and the general story of jocks versus nerd. This is mostly a sex comedy up until the finale when it gets oddly serious. Decent flick overall.
RIP McBeardo
