Viewing Notes

Canadian action production that really wants to be a southeast Asian flick. Initially I wondered why this had low ratings yet by the end it’s clear; this “feature” is more like a tv pilot than a movie (it’s even shot like a television show). Has some decent action sequences (our teenage Iko Uwais surrogate fighting vacant eyed white dudes) but there’s a lot of expo and table setting you’d find in a pilot.

I approached this like it was another X-men origin story especially around the Weapon X experiments. That worked but having no conclusion left me cold by the end.

So I guess the X-men comparison is appropriate since this director made a subsequent film about a group of mutants being tracked down which sounds like an extension of this story but I don’t think it’s related. Guess I’ll watch that too.
