Grabbed this one from the new release shelf at the library having forgotten that this was the flick that stirred up some silly controversy last year b/c of the age difference between Amanda Seyfried and Kevin Bacon, the main couple in the movie. When the movie started it came back to me and immediately how dumb all that discourse was b/c it’s actually the main plot point; he’s much older than her and everyone is aware of this fact! So the casting and age difference is intentional and it works. Sheesh, if ppl would just see the film before opening their yap for a change. What a concept!
Anyways, this movie is fine but falls into that trope that I generally dislike: dream reality. It just makes everything up for doubting and disbelief. Both actors do a good job and the daughter is very good as well but how this story plays out is meh. This movie probably would’ve done decently at the theater last year in a non-pandemic situation as it has some good jump scares and visuals.
