Overview

Jack Shindo and Stanley Haggard are astronauts doing research on the planet Mars. On a routine mission to survey the desolate landscape, they found out that there are other living creatures on the planet! Their biggest threat is Goudis, whose monsters have been ordered to kill all life on earth. Returning from a mission on Mars, the Ultraman has to take on Goudis to save the planet and all the human beings on Earth!

My dinner & a movie feature courtesy of DKUTV. I’ve sorta avoided these particular features crafted from the Ultraman Great series c.1990 bc it’s shot in Australia in English w/Aussie actors. DKU back when it was still TKUTV aired these features a few times and I tried watching but yeah no.

Decided since I was eating dinner anyways why not give it another go. Still not crazy about this one which is a ~90 minute film made from the first six episodes of Ultraman Great (Ultraman: Towards the Future), the the “Gudis Threat” story arc. The main issue is that it just feels like Ultraman was rented for for this. Like, everyone’s going thru the motions and all serious and whatnot but it’s just not Ultraman in the way we know Ultraman. I’m guessing the short 13 episode season and failure to launch the second season despite the story plans has a lot to do w/the rejection of this version of the Ultra series.

tbh it feels like a knockoff. Apparently there was a nice edition released on Blu in Japan that includes both English and Japanese versions (they dubbed the series in JP when it aired in Japan) plus the films that would be kinda neat to have. I’m sure it’s hella expensive and possible OOP by now but I may track it down in the future.
