Viewing Notes

Firstly, Gwei Lunmei is excellent here. Secondly, this is not a movie if you need a pick-me-up. Basically sadness porn or grief porn. I really like segments of this movie but the sad moments are rough. Guessing the low ratings on this have more to do w/the lack of the backstory as to why this mother / daughter are in this situation. I kinda like that mystery and ambiguity but also want to know to what happened that put them there. So I get it. Would love to have the entire soundtrack to this movie w/o the dialogue. Also I bet this is incredible on a 5.1 or 7.1 audio setup. Really had me missing backpacking (despite the heavy story).

“Clair de lune” is unsurprisingly used in this given the film title. It’s odd that I really never noticed this piece of music until it was featured prominently in the Godzilla KOTM trailer. Like, it just never stuck with me as “oh that’s Clair de lune!” until that trailer and now it just jumps out as soon as those first few notes are played. So weird to me.
