Overview

Second Ultraman feature in the Ultra-pack evening on DKU and one I hadn’t seen. This one is really great! Also looked very nice on my TV (happy to stream these movies via the Twitch app again). The clarity of the transfer and quality subtitles has me thinking this might be available on physical media* (also it’s apparently available on Tubi). I’d love to get this series and movie. It’s just loaded with Ultra brothers and some great kaiju battles. Also appreciate it being set in Okinawa and using some of the local folklore as the foundation for this story.
Ultraman Geed (pronounced “Jeed” like “Jeeg” and there’s even a “Jeeg” joke made by one of the other Ultras) is fine but it’s the other Ultras and friends that make this so much fun. Geed is joined by Zero and Orb, who both go thru various armor enhancements, which is an obvious sign this is a more recent series (a lot of this felt like modern Kamen Rider series). Also the Juggler joins them which I was unfamiliar with but he’s coded evil or questionable but here he fights with the Ultras.
This movie also features some fun alien creatures plus solid female characters including Chihiro Yamamoto who is a regular in the Ultraman Geed tv series. She’s a total badass and should be added to that still unproduced Asian women assassin team movie I want. Last saw her in the BRAVESTORM mecha flick.
* update: logged back into DKU after the (awful) Cubs game and caught the end credits of this movie where they show clips from the series. Looks so good! So I checked and… the Geed series + this movie is available on Blu from Mill Creek! Used my AMZ credit to order it and it will be my official first delivery at my new Longmont address in a couple of days! Hopefully I don’t have any “missing package issues” like other residents seem to have. Excited to watch this series.
