Viewing Notes

Second film in my AMC A-List double feature and a disappointment on many fronts. For an action movie based on one of the coolest characters from G.I. Joe lore, this is a rather inert film. Sure, there’s action beats but none of it is interesting or particularly good… it’s all just there like a paint-by-numbers flick. Everything shown has been done better in so many other examples that it makes this even worse. That on top of the weak ass origin story they give this character that tbh doesn’t really hold a lot of water. Not for once did I buy that this character would behave in this manner.

Then there’s other stuff like totally wasting a stunt casting of Iko Uwais. Having Samara Weaving as Scarlet is great but how she’s used and her dialogue is awful. I like all the on-location shooting Japan but it’s also confounding in how it’s presented and poorly utilized in the film. There’s plenty more dumb things but I really just don’t care to waste more time on this movie.

Quite sad bc I know there’s a better story that could’ve been told and crafted in such a slick and entertaining way yet this is what we got. Totally side with Scott Adkins on this one.
