Viewing Notes

Really didn’t know what to expect nor knew what the main narrative would be for this other than it was a BLACKPINK “movie” but after the first 10 - 15 minutes I was worried this was gonna be some pointless highlight reel from the past 5 years since their debut. Thankfully, as the movie played out it became something more than that but still a highlight reel of sorts.

The soundstage production of THE SHOW contains the best of the performances (the rest are merely an assemblage of previous concert footage we’ve seen before). I particularly enjoyed the sequence when the four women are just sitting on a chair and singing (no dance routine just pure singing and grooving to the song). Really nice moment. My second favorite aspect is the BLINK footage of all the fans around the world and the reaction these young women have to being loved and appreciated all over the globe.

The short “interview” bits were a tad amusing “A Lisa Film” “A Jisoo Film” etc but not much substance there outside of some creative studio imagery and camera work. Really the best is when these women had a few brief moments to be candid and express their feelings. When they goof around is what has made them so relatable despite becoming a huge pop music machine.

I still have some sadness for them and what they’ve sacrificed in exchange for this world stage of celebrity and fame over the past five years. They touch on it indirectly when they say there’s been good times and sad times. Their entire existence is in complete control by their management group and allows for zero flexibility unless it’s for the BLACKPINK brand.
