Saw this on the Cinephobe.tv schedule and it piqued my interest. The description oversells it a bit as this more about the life of this woman in a big city as she navigates her profession combined with her personal interests and how they intersect. That is interesting as the movie unfolds, especially with gender roles and breaking down patriarchal barriers. Not entirely successful but certainly a good watch and movie that’s not NYC but feels like NYC.
Guessing this is a “lost” film in that there’s no decent home media release since this transfer was rather awful, likely ripped from VHS or an old 4x3 movie channel. That poor PQ definitely hurt the tone a bit. Would like to see a cleaned restoration and great audio track bc the soundtrack is amazing. So many female musicians from that era, which may be another reason why it hasn’t gotten a release.
Altho not quite as dark this would pair well with Looking for Mr. Goodbar.
