TIL in Japan they’ve been producing stage plays / musicals for Resident Evil (aka Biohazard) for the past 10+ years. So this is not a movie but a recording — pro recording — of the live performance. A rather handsome cast portrays a few series regulars (ex. Chris Redfield) plus a very game 75yo Sonny Chiba as the university rector. He actually gets the final emotional beat in the epilogue where he has a soliloquy with a severed arm. I was smitten with the Sophie Home character (actress Raychell who has done other RE plays).
Overall this was a fascinating thing to watch but loses some energy from merely being a recording. I’m sure it would’ve been a blast to be there in person bc some of the action takes place in the aisles (and there are som neat theatrics). It is a bit odd to have a musical number happen in the middle of a zombie attack scene but kinda fun, too. I love the Umbrella props with the actual Umbrella Corporation logo as the pattern. I wonder if they sell those bc they are perfect!
The transfer DKU had was not great; looked like a rip from a YT stream. But it was serviceable. I’d like to watch more of these if I can find them. Big fan of the RE mythology.
