Didn’t want to pass up an opportunity to view an otherwise unavailable Yoji Yamada film via Cinephobe. Also of interest b/c it’s like an elseworlds TORA-SAN story sharing a few of the primary cast members from that film series (Chieko Baisho in the most prominent role as wife/mother). But god DAMN this is a heart-wrenching movie to watch. Like, holy shit I can’t even imagine viewing this if I were a parent.
On one hand, yes this is a really good drama directed & written by Yamada but seriously… why? Why write this kind of grief porn. tbh if I was a parent and went to see this in a theater back in 1970 I would probably be angry.
