Second half of my double feature at Westminster Promenade… and one I really didn’t think I’d be seeing in theater. It was literally a game time decision when I made the choice to view this or walk into a 35th anniversary screening of LABYRINTH or pick something else altogether.
I AM SO GLAD I CHOSE THIS MOVIE. Holy shit this thing is balls out violent and brutal and tragic and depressing. I only have a vague recollection of the first movie which we saw at Bruce Campbell’s Horror Fest a few years ago. I knew that Stephen Lang’s character turned out to be a wack job but also he was the victim of the home invasion / robbery. So perhaps a grey area of morals and principals. Again, I need to revisit that one.
Here is his redemption arc so to speak. Or at least the character we thought he was in the first movie before it gets really weird with the turkey baster (admittedly that was some fucked up shit). Not that he’s different in this movie but perhaps he’s moved on from that plan yet still lives in an abandoned part of Detroit? Anyways, this was so much better than I expected. And tbh I really wasn’t planning to see this in theater upon release bc I just had no interest in it. I didn’t even watch the trailer. Just wasn’t interested.
Fortunately the movie delivers a thrilling cat & mouse bit of ultra-violence and maybe alleviates some of that questionable grey area.
