Found this DVD (purchased used at Family Video back in the day) when I was looking thru boxes for October / Halloween flicks. It was one that I really wanted to revisit for my FF Revisited mini project so I was thrilled to stumble on the old DVD. This is one that I originally watched at my very first FF in 2010.
This is a fun fantasy period action romp with Donnie Yen’s character getting betrayed so he goes on the run. He’s a super badass general of the elite special forces w/a weapon that contains 14 blades, hence the title. He takes Vicki Zhao as a hostage to aid him w/his planning to get revenge or his dignity back or whatever. I’ve been in like with her since SO CLOSE so of course this movie caters to my interests. Yen kicking ass plus a magic infused princess hunting him down it’s all silly stuff but looks great in spite of the convoluted screenplay. I wonder if a better version of this movie existed but was edited when it was picked up by the Weinstein Group. Anyways, I would own this on Blu if one exists.
