Viewing Notes

I’m sure he would disagree but the worst thing to happen to Keita Amemiya is the advent of digital FX for regular use in science fiction/ fantasy television series. The practical GARO suits and other costumes look great. But all the digital monsters and FX look like trash. And it’s super noticeable bc of the excellent practical suits in the same composite shot with shitty CGI.

If anything I wish Amemiya hadn’t started to use digital until much later. When GARO started back in the early naughts I thought it was just a more fantasy leaning tokusatsu program compared to the sci-fi of Ultraman or Kamen Rider. Then I watch one of these movies and remember it’s hardcore horror fantasy. An innocent bystander gets severed in half! Would’ve been so wild to watch this after school in the same block as Spectraman and Space Giants. Haha

This broadcast was part of the Keita Amemiya event that DKU does in October bc he’s done so many horror tokusatsu films. I hadn’t seen this one so it was nice to view even tho I have no idea what’s going on in the overarching story of the series.
