While Ryoko is in Vienna studying music, her boyfriend dies in a traffic accident. Ryoko believes that she has psychic powers which killed him, and when she returns to Japan she is sent to a mental hospital. While recovering, her brother-in-law, Kouji, decides to look after her, and she goes to his house to act as a governess for Kouji’s sister Keiko’s daughter, Alice – who Ryoko becomes increasingly sure had something to do with her sister Fuyuko’s death.

Third movie in Justin Decloux’s 24hr mind melter movie marathon. I was only able to catch the first 15 minutes b/c I had to leave for the afternoon block of short films at Dickens Horror Movie Film Festival. I finished the film via YT when I got home. This is a fun flick and total Obayashi joint. Even if I didn’t know the director I would absolutely know it was Obayashi from all his signature touches: piano, bizarre painted backgrounds, awkward character interactions, and the flute in the score. Plus this just has his tone and feel.
What’s amazing is that this is tv movie and it’s out there. So glad that Justin programmed this b/c I had forgotten about it after it hit my radar last year.
Fourth movie in the marathon was Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles but I was at Dickens Opera House so I missed this one. The fifth movie I skipped b/c it was Justin’s fan edit mashup of Puppet Master 4 and 5. But from what I saw of it I would like to catch up w/both those films someday.
