Went over to the Secret Cinema to join Ron for more 31 Days of Horror viewing. Decided to go with one of his selections recently acquired on Blu and a movie I’ve never seen despite owning a DVD of it for years (also have the sequel on DVD). But it’s been one I’ve wanted to see so it was the perfect opportunity to watch this wild Japanese giallo / Cronenbergian body horror flick. Crazy mashup that mostly works thanks to the Claudio Simonetti / Goblin imitation score and gruesome visuals. That said, this is a much slower burn that I would’ve expected. Especially given that it takes place at one location.
Probably most impressed with the extreme aspects of this movie for a late 1980s production. Can’t even imagine what the reaction was back then for something like this.
