Viewing Notes

Was great to finally see a big Indian flick here in Colorado at my local cinema. Most of the Indian films play at other theaters much farther away (when they screen at all). Seeing Akshay Kumar on the big screen gave me all the warm fuzzies as it’s been a while. That said, this isn’t one of his best movies and the premise is a bit retread covering the Mumbai bombings and present threat of terrorism. Guess this is a big nationalist kind of story they love to tell.

What does make this a fun movie is when Simmba (Ranveer Singh) and Singham (Ajay Devgn) show up. But it takes a while… yet when it happens the movie shifts into full gear and it is an absolute hoot. Seeing these three super cops team up to slap around bad dudes and waste an entire army of terrorists is something to behold.

Akshay is fine but clearly showing signs of his age (my age!) and even the flashback scenes they just removed the gray from his hair. I like Jackie Shroff a lot but he doesn’t get much to do but grimace and be upset. Even Katrina Kaif is sidelined as angry wife / mother. All in all not a very good movie but worth viewing for the second half and big finale w/the three heroes (and closing credits dance).
