Overview

One month after Kayaba Akihiko’s game of death began, the death toll continues to rise, two thousand players having already lost their lives to the ultra-difficult VRMMO world of Sword Art Online. On the day of the strategy meeting to plan out the first-floor boss battle, Kirito, a solo player who vows to fight alone to get stronger, runs into a rare, high-level female player. Viewing Notes

I don’t know anything about this series but why not. I’m in the mood to be confused.

Love when I’m off the mark on these things. This could not have been more easy to follow. It’s like an elaborate SAW trap where thousands of players get stuck a VR role playing game and have to survive or die in the real world.

Also a thinly veiled coming out allegory for these young women, which was p cool to see given the taboo nature of gay themes in Japan. There are some very frustrating plot devices that had me almost yelling at the screen but whatever. This is still a wonderful film. Seeing anime this good in IMAX is fantastic.
