DKUTV kicked off their Christmas week with p much the same programming as in previous years. Hadn’t seen this one since 2019 before they launched on Twitch so it was a chance to watch via my tv. Much better! My previous notes still hold up altho I did notice Taro Suwa in a very quick cameo so I added him to TMDb.
Weird that Takao Osawa gets top billing in the credits yet he’s really a supporting role. It’s completely Miki Nakatani’s movie. This time it was bugging me b/c I knew I recognized Takao Osawa from something else. Turns out he was the enormous battle general from KINGDOM (2020). I’d love to see how they created the FX for that role given that he’s not a large man, just normal by Japanese standards.
This movie is basically a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie that I wouldn’t bother with had it been made in America. But being set in Nagasaki (I really want to visit there now!) with this fun cast makes it very appealing to me. I don’t think there’s any other way to view this so I’m glad I could see it again.
