Viewing Notes

Officially kicking off my TAK mini-project for 2022! No one will call this a great film and few will consider a good film but I absolutely love this movie. TAK looks so good, best he’s looked in years, and he’s clearly exhausted and nearly delirious two thirds into this long take. Like you can see on his face, “why did I ever decide to do this??!” In some ways it’s almost hypnotic to watch this and just a cool thing to see unfold. I also like that there was almost zero attempt to be period accurate with the look of the samurai (no shaved heads w/the top knot being the most glaring). It was like they said, “yeah screw that we have no time for it bc we had to storyboard an plan this 80 minute long take down to every detail.”
