My final film of JFF Online 2022! Wasn’t sure I’d be able to see this one but glad to squeeze it in as it has a lot to say about outdated customs that are still quite the norm in Japan. Also, great to see different areas of Tokyo I don’t usually see in movies (no obvious shots of Shinjuku or Shibuya, either). But they do make sure Tokyo Tower is prominent in several shots! Haha
So basically fuck rich people and their rules and expectations and all the bullshit involved. I couldn’t deal with it. All the general customs and traditions are bad enough but to have that nonsense throw on top of it is too much. A lot of this movie just made me angry. Kept wondering how Yumi would react to all this and yet was happy she came from a very middle class family. I’m sure I wouldn’t have even met her parents if they were upper class.
Kengo Kora is in a few of movies I’ve seen recently. Good for him. He’s good even when he’s a shitheel character like in this movie.
