A young man adopted by a renowned swordsmith, discovers that his real father was killed by a powerful bandit called Lung. Leaving to seek revenge, he runs foul of a group of vicious desert scum, losing his right arm in the process. After being nursed back to health, he eventually learns to compensate for his loss and returns to confront the man who murdered his father.

Borrowed Ron’s dvd so I could revisit this. Forgot so much of it, of course, which is why I needed the rewatch. Such a batshit total mid-90s swing for the fences flick by Hark. Very much his thing but I also believe that only in his mind does he understand and see the story he is telling.
In its simplest form this is just a “I must avenge my father” film. But the journey it takes to get from point A to the finale is nuts. Plus that final battle between Ding On and Falcon is bonkers. I’m surprised I’ve logged so few Vincent Zhao films given how many I watched during his nineties run. Guess I need to revisit those, too!
